Ain't This the Truth

Carverplacard"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because some day in life you will have been all these."

George Washington Carver 1864-1943, Scientist

I also had no idea he appears to be the origin of a version of one of my all time favorite quotes ..The version I have always gone by:

One Hundred Years from now... it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.

That quote has played a huge role in keeping me grounded and focused. Right now of course the old Pre-school favorite poem:

Sometimes you get discouraged Because I am so small And always leave my fingerprints On furniture and walls. But every day I'm growing ... I'll be grown-up someday, And all those tiny handprints Will surely fade away. So here's a final handprint Just so you can recall Exactly how my fingers looked When I was very small.

is hanging on our fridge with Nethan's handprints.... Bryceton's project with handprints is packed away ....Of course the walls and windows are full of BOTH of their handprints :-)

PERSEVERANCE

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.

Thanks for the great suggestions and support. I greatly appreciate it. The laptop crashed and this computer is not easily accessible or reliable. Will blog more as I have a chance.

Crystal Clearing My Desk

Self-respect is a product of doing difficult things, and doing them well.
    -George Bernard Shaw

Winners make goals; others make excuses.

The self is not something ready-made, but something in continuous formation through choice of action.

Crystal Clearing My Desk

This was a lot of fun and quite a hit last time.  As I needed to clean my desk off a bit to find some of the notes I needed, I thought I'd share a few more.
Ya' know I am sort of embarassed and sort of sorry some people don't like my tag line of Crystal Clear. The reason I am bringing this up now is I really giggled when I titled  this entry Crystal Clearing My Desk and decided I would title all future posts where I clear my desk and share quotes as the same. Then I had a dreaded thought of... Well..ya' know maybe it has come to a point where the number of people irritated and driven away is greater than the number who think it is charming. I told you I hate it when I start having thoughts like that...so for right now I pretty much still am getting a bit of a kick from using it.  Right now I am not as worried about annoying others but realizing there may come a time when I am even more annoyed with  myself...

The greatest remedy for anger is delay
           ---Seneca
It's hard to beat a person who never gives up.
            ---Babe Ruth
A wise man will make more opportunities than he finds.
           ---Francis Bacon

Look at the weaknesses of others with compassion, not accusation. It's not what they're not doing or should be doing that's the issue. The issue is your own chosen response to the situation and what you should be doing. If you start to think the problem is 'out there,' stop yourself. That thought is the problem.
            ---Stephen Covey

Cleaning Off My Desk Can Be Inspiring

I enjoy inspirational quotes and have a bunch of little bits of paper from calendars past that I have piled on my desk. So to allow myself some open space I have decided to add a few here and there...

To persevere, trusting in what you hope for, is courage
                                -Euripedes

Between stimulus and response is our greatest power-the freedom to choose.
                                -Stephen Covey

You do not lead by hitting people over the head. That is assault, not leadership.
                                            -Dwight D. Eisenhower

Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things, which renew humanity.
                                            - The Buddha

Learning to Fly

"When you come to the edge of all the light you know, and are about to
step off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing one of two
things will happen: There will be something solid to stand on or you
will be taught how to fly."

~Barbara J. Winter
