Crystal Clear Statement, Si?
Just about every single time I think I have finished writing about battle after battle America is losing with regards to La Reconquista and using the provocative "Mexifornia" in a post, something like this picture
drops right into my lap right after I passed yesterday on posting about this billboard
According to ProjectUSA who tried to place the billboard regarding Az Senator McCain (R) in Phoenix,
Viacom justified its decision to refuse our message by citing its right under company guidelines to reject speech that "personally attacks an individual; is obviously false, misleading, or deceptive; relates to an illegal activity; and offends local standards of decency and good taste."
According to a radio report I heard regarding the other billboard, (which I personally believe attacks an entire city if not nation; is legally false; relates to the illegal activity of millions of illegal Hispanic aliens; and completely offends the standards and decency and good taste of legal American citizens who are still living under the antiquated notion we are living in America) Clear Channel or someone from Channel 62, completely minimized the growing rumblings about the billboard by remarking,
"Its just an ad."
As an American who values American citizenship and honors the men and women who have valiantly fought and died for our country and so others could have freedom and liberty, I see a great deal more and believe it is a great deal more than just an advertisement. Although the message is in Spanish, I would guess the symbolism of crossing out CA isn't lost on citizens of either Mexico or America. Certainly most would also recognize this as the type of tagging gang members use to mark and designate their hood and turf as conquered and claimed.
As you should well know, long before this actual writing on the wall , many of us have been trying to raise awareness regarding the mantras of "melting pot", "they just come here to work", "they do the jobs Americans won't do", and of course "cultural diversity". Crystal Clear, these are myths when it comes to the invasion of illegal Hispanic aliens and their anchor babies. It is no longer a melting pot. Our prison systems and law enforcement agencies are mired in the challenges of dealing with gangs and the growing number of career criminal aliens benefiting from our porous borders and sanctuary laws. Cultural diversity strengthens and enriches individuals and communities. This isn't diversity. This has been and will continue to be a Trojan Horse as long as our president and a highly suspect group of our elected representatives succeed in manipulating and exploiting the goodwill of our nation.

UPDATED II 4/27/05 Ad Putting L.A. in Mexico Called Slap in Face

Those who dismiss the criticisms of illegal aliens by saying 'they came here to work' or 'they're a part of the melting pot' do nothing more than spit in the face of those who come here legally.
The last thing we need are people whose first act within our borders is a crime of illegal entry.
My grandparents came through Ellis Island (strangely, there is no record of 'on the Pennsylvania Turnpike' surname, but I know they're in there!). That they and millions of other who came (and continue to come) here legally are equated with felons is an absolute insult.

Excellent post Crystal! Very interesting points on the gang turf symbols, and also on the trojan horse analogy. Border control is something that the people of America seem united on across the political spectrum, and something I'm very disappointed with with our president. Keep up the good work.
I've got part II to yesterday's post if you are interested.

Hopefully if the Real ID act passes it will be a start. I think Mexico will fight attempts of all those illegal aliens going back to Mexico, especially gang members. The Mexican government is very happy to have them stay in California!

Crystal, wonderful story and comments on the billboard.I've been writting my State (SD) representatives and DEMANDING something be done about the illegals walking into this country. The fight is over them comming here to do jobs Americans will not do,farm labors...Well,I have a solution,Prison Labor!!!!The Farmers could get cheaper labor, and Teen agers could also do this work during the summer, for what they are paying the illegals.Closing Military Bases overseas that are in Solid Democracies and Moving them and Rebuilding them along our Borders would and COULD STOP the Illegals from getting in to this great nation. If all else fails....Mine the Borders!!!! Works in Korea.

Well, to keep the conversation going I have to say I'm skeptical. Without actually driving down the 605 Freeway and seeing the sign for myself, I reserve judgement.
So far, the only media that's "reporting" this are folks who are, um, er, uh... to the right of me and I've been in graphic arts long enough to know who easy it is to manipulate digital images.
Indeed, I've "seen" dinosaurs eat jeeps and cave-trolls beat up hobbits so how can I "believe" anything I see on a video screen?

Darryl-I am guessing you will consider the LA Times more towards the center or Left...I am really curious now that you hopefully acknowledge it is a legitimate billboard that you will please share your thoughts wihtout having to actually drive down the freeway. Please share your judgement now that you have more reason to believe it is true than a Photoshop hoax.

...okay, I've purchase the Los Angeles Times and looked in the California section and found the article about the billboard.
First, I think it's more of insult to the many Hispanic-heritage people who haven't come from Mexico.
Second, I think it's an insult to those who consider themselves Californios, myself included (2nd-generation). But then again my heritage is trailer-trash/hillbilly.
Third, one's implication is not necessarily the inference, even in a conversation where two people are speaking the same language. The use of the word "equipo" in the billboard to me meant "stuff." ... but the billboard writers meant "team." But anyhow, I don't see any difference between the billboard and: 1) Chinatown 2) Little Italy 3) ...any Irish, Polish, or Cuban community. Here in California we even have "Little Denmark" (Solvang).
Fourth, a little sentimentality: when I was six years old we lived in Soledad Canyon (north of Los Angeles). Our neighbors included Hispanic railroad and farming workers. One family had a very sick child and their grandmother (abuela) crocheted (which is a French word) an intricate shawl as a burial shroud; with each stitch she prayed to God that if the girl survived, she would give the shawl to my mother (because my mom deserved something beautiful). Hurray! The little child survived! The family gave the shawl to ours as a gift. Years later, my wife's student developed cancer: a tumor the size of a basketball inside her intestines and another the size of a softball inside her heart-sack. Before the student went into the hospital for aggressive treatments, my wife gave her the shawl and told the story. After a long struggle, she had an amazing remission and has remained cancer-free for nearly 24 months now (...36 to go).
So, these are my thoughts. My conclusion: good things come from all kinds of people.

It's time we got rid of that traitor McCain, and I don't just mean out of the Republican Party, out of the country. The man talks with a honey tongue but his campaign finance bill is going to limit political speech incredibly. The whole reason for the 1st Amendment is to protect political speech as that is the most important speech we have in this country. John McCain tries to be friends to everyone but is far beyond looney. I thank him for his service in Vietnam and for the endurance to make it through being a POW, but that doesn't give him a free pass anymore...

That billboard is hilarious. I suspect we will be seeing them in Virginia soon, especially since they just turned WHFS into El Zol
